Technical information – Funcosil SNL

Funcosil SNL is a reactive, oligomeric siloxane solution for the water-repellent impregnation of mineral building materials. Due to its low molecular structure, the product penetrates deeply into the substrate.

After application, the active ingredient reacts with the moisture present in the material, forming a water-repellent, UV- and weather-resistant protective layer. This layer bonds to the pore and capillary walls without affecting vapour permeability.

As a result:

  • Water absorption is significantly reduced

  • Uptake of harmful substances is limited

  • Growth of microorganisms is reduced

  • Freeze–thaw resistance is greatly improved

  • Energy loss through the façade is reduced

Application instructions – Remmers Funcosil SNL

  • Use a low-pressure sprayer (e.g. garden or weed sprayer)

  • Pour Funcosil SNL easily using the integrated spout
    (for 30-litre containers, the use of a funnel is recommended)

Apply the product so that the substrate is completely saturated. Application can be carried out:

  • From top to bottom, or

  • From bottom to top (preferred: wet-on-wet for optimal performance)

Important during application:

  • Do not atomise or mist (avoid high pressure or fine nozzles)

  • The liquid should flow as a film of approx. 30–50 cm down the façade

  • Treat defined façade sections without interruption to avoid missed areas

Small or complex areas that cannot be treated by low-pressure flow may be treated with a brush or roller, provided these are regularly dipped into the impregnation liquid to ensure sufficient material application.

Processing Injection Cream 80

Surface preparation 
If present, remove old plaster layer at least 80 cm more than the visible moisture-salt damage limit. Remove bad, affected joints 2 cm deep. Seal open joints with Remmers Grundputz. Treat walls up to 30 cm above the injection zone or above ground level with Remmers sulfatex mortar from the Kiesol system (mineral seal with depth effect).

Adjacent parts
Building parts and/or materials that should not come into contact with the impregnating agent (e.g. glass, painted or parts yet to be painted) must be properly protected, just like plants (e.g. by covering them with construction film).

Drill holes
Take a 12mm diameter drill and drill holes in one row with a distance between holes of 12cm, horizontally in the wall. Drill hole depth up to approx. 2 cm before end wall thickness. Walls, thickness > 0.6 m, drill from both sides if necessary. Example: with a wall thickness of 20 cm, the borehole is 18 cm deep. Before filling the holes, completely remove the drilling dust.

Injection
Injection Cream 80 is injected or applied into the masonry through the drill holes. The boreholes are usually placed just above ground level on the outside or at the height of the plinth inside. Press the spray lance, adapted to the diameter of the drilled holes, as deeply as possible into the drilled hole. The drill hole must be completely filled by allowing the Kiesol C to flow out very slowly and simultaneously withdrawing the spray lance. A regular low-pressure weed sprayer with a straight lance can also be used for this. 
The application is still possible at a moisture content of approximately 95%. To prevent evaporation of the effective active substance from the boreholes, they must be closed as soon as possible with Remmers WP DS Levell (item no. 042625).

Kiesol C+ accelerates the reaction time with the substrate. This means that horizontal sealing is achieved more quickly with C+.

Directions
Shake the liquid component well before using. The powder component is added to the liquid component. Remove material that adheres to the side of the bucket with a trowel and mix with a suitable mixing tool until homogeneous, lump-free and the proper consistence for application with a brush or filling knife has been achieved. Mixing time is approx. 3 minutes. If required, smaller quantities can also be mixed in a ratio of 1 part by weight liquid to 1.36 parts by weight powder. The mixing ratio should not be changed. The subsequent working operations are executed as described under Applications in a brushing or filling procedure. The maximum total wet layer thickness should not exceed 5 mm. The Funcosil SNL is applied under gravity in a flow coating procedure generously enough that a 30-50 cm long film of liquid runs down the building material. The nozzle should be held horizontally and led along the facade without interruption. After the Funcosil SNL has been absorbed, the process is repeated several times. Spraying pressure and nozzle diameter should be selected so that misting does not occur. To avoid missing areas, limited sections should be completely impregnated without interruption. A brush or roller can be used for smaller, complicated surfaces that do not allow a spray application. In this case, the required application rate can only be achieved by working with well saturated tools. Protect the freshly impregnated surface from driving rain for at least 5 hours. Strong wind and sunlight may accelerate evaporation of the carrier which has a negative influence on penetration depth. The surface of less absorbent substrates should be washed off with V 101 Thinner half an hour to an hour after application to remove excess material which could create a gloss. Remmers Funcosil AS 5 litres is a solvent-based, water-repellent facade impregnation based on siloxane/acrylate, which enhances the color of mineral substrates and provides light surface strengthening. Technical information

Funcosil SNL is a reactive siloxane solution that penetrates mineral surfaces deeply. It forms a durable, water-repellent layer without affecting vapour permeability.

Application

  • Use a low-pressure sprayer or brush/roller

  • Apply until the substrate is fully saturated

Property profile Primer F

To be used for priming and strengthening old, friable and sanding renders as well as old lime and mineral paints and chalking dispersion coatings. It is also used for priming concrete, fibrated cement boards, frost resistant brick, cementitious renders (DIN 18550, P II and P III), interior renders, light-weight concrete, gypsum renders, gypsum building board, hard and press board, interior and exterior.

Directions Primer F
The substrate must be clean, dry and load bearing capable. Remove non-functioning old coatings and treat alga, lichen and moss with Alkutex BFA Impregnation. The substrate should be prepared according to guide lines for scrub and weather proof dispersion paint coatings. Observe especially VOB [German Contract Procedures in the Building Industry], Part C, DIN 18363, paragraphs 2 and 3; BFS Code of Practice for the respective areas of work. On highly absorbent, sanding and friable substrates, apply undiluted Funcosil Deep Primer evenly once or if necessary twice, wet-on-wet.
For weakly absorbent substrates, apply Funcosil Deep Primer thinned with 10% V 100 thinner or white spirit (turpentine substitute) evenly.

Range of use Clean WR
Remmers Combi WR is used especially for weak acidic cleaning of mineral wall surfaces (sand-lime brick, brick, fair-faced concrete) but is also suitable for sensitive natural stone surfaces and tiles. It can also be used for the removal of lime deposits on tiles in showers and swimming pools.

Property profile Clean WR
Weak acidic cleaner combination, ready-to-use. When used properly it does not attack even sensitive mineral building material surfaces. Lime and mortar laitance are dissolved along with superficial soiling.

Directions Clean WR
Pre-wet absorbent substrates thoroughly so that the cleaner does not penetrate too deeply into the building material. Apply Combi WR, clean mechanically (scrub brush) and wash off thoroughly. If necessary, repeat the cleaning measure. Large surfaces with heavier soil can be worked over with a hot water jet or steam cleaning equipment. Working temperature: The object temperature should range between +5 °C and +30 °C. Notes on working Test on a representative place before applying the cleaner. Adjacent surfaces: Building elements that should not come in contact with the cleaning agent, e.g. metal parts, lacquered surfaces as well as glass and plants should be protected by appropriate means (e.g. covering with plastic sheets).

Property profile
Remmers AGE is a water emulsifiable cleaning product in paste form. It has a long action time which allows deeper lying paint remains and layers of varnish to be reliably removed.

Directions
Apply the material generously but evenly with a brush or roller (no plastic bristles) or airless equipment and allow to act. The stripper is removed with a filling knife or a high pressure cleaner. The stripping effect depends on the substrate, the material to be stripped, ambient climate and thickness of the layer applied. The reaction time can be increased by covering with a thin plastic sheet.

Application rate
Approx. 300 - 500 g/m² depending on type and layer thickness of the respective old coating or graffiti.
